"$20 Up Front" live at DNA

Title: "$20 Up Front" live at DNA
Category: Performance
Year: 2009

Synopsis: This collaborative piece, with Julie Fotheringham, was performed at DNA (Dance New Amsterdam), NY. This piece combines three concepts: the lapdance, webcam sex and a surveillance system. I constructed the video system and perform the live music. Julie was responsible for the movement, performance and operation of the video gear. This piece also uses video projection showing the entire laptop screen, unfortunately, the video projector died just before we were supposed to start and we had to perform without it. More info on Julie Fotheringham here.

Production Notes: I'm playing electric bass and a toy keyboard at the same time, as you can see in the video. Also, I'm using a very old toy computer to make the simple bleeping notes. The video system consists of four microlens black & white cameras connected to a sequential switcher. The switcher connects to the laptop where, in addition to the live camera images, Julie types in verbal commands which are spoken by the computer.
