"III" Live at the Movement Research series at Judson Church

Title: "III" Live at the Movement Research series at Judson Church
Category: Performance
Year: 2010

Synopsis: This performance shares concepts, motifs, physicality and aesthetics of the performance that preceded it: "2FACE". A short work in three parts, the two performers enact several vignettes which depict aspects of interactions in a fictional relationship(s). S/he sees the other as a screen-based (mediated, removed, artificial) character. All contact is electronic rather than physical. More info on Julie Fotheringham here.

Production Notes: The video setup for this piece consists of an HDTV (made portable by being connected to a dolly) and a live, battery-powered small-scale video camera connected to the back of the HDTV. There are two live sound sources: a mic strapped to the throat which picks up my pulse, inhaling, exhaling and occasional vocal sounds, and a microcassette recorder which I use to manipulate the speed of its tape playback. The third sound source is a pre-edited studio-based improvisation consisting of Julie's voice, a toy keyboard and controlled feedback.
