"Inside Out" Live at the Rover

Title: "Inside Out" Live at the Rover
Category: Performance
Year: 2010

Synopsis: This site-specific performance with Julie Fotheringham depicts a scene from two points of view: outside and inside. While the subject goes about her mundane nightly routine, she is mostly unaware that she is being watched and listened to by a third-person (and/or audience in the room).

Production Notes: For the inside camera view(s), I made use of a custom 3-camera rig (the previous results of which can be seen in "Oversight" in the Video section of this site). For the telephone "conversation", both Julie and I used lavalier mics. In order to make my speech unintelligible, I used physical/acoustic techniques such as squeezing my nose and holding the mic just below it. The persistent drone and clicks in the background come from a contact mic attached to the rotating motors (onto which the 3 cameras are mounted). The soundtrack also contains piano, played live on an iPhone.
